Angelica Herrera, a senior researcher at American Institutes for Research (AIR), serves as an alliance researcher for the REL Southwest. Her major responsibilities include developing study proposals and designing quantitative and mixed-method research studies through the analysis of state and local longitudinal data focusing on policy issues involving English learner students.
Dr. Herrera’s research interests have focused broadly on understanding the education and social disparities experienced by children and families living in poverty. Much of her professional career has been devoted to researching the effects of programs and policies on children’s academic achievement and socio-emotional well-being, with a focus on English learner students. Dr. Herrera is highly skilled at project management, the development of evaluation project scopes and timelines, program implementation measurement, the recruitment of participants and schools, data collection, and quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
