Jason LaTurner, a principal technical assistance consultant at American Institutes for Research (AIR), serves as co-deputy director for the REL Southwest. In this role, Dr. LaTurner provides overall leadership and quality assurance of the REL Southwest's analytic technical support and research projects. In addition, he assists the REL Southwest director in the management of relationships, communications, and work with the REL Southwest Governing Board, which comprises education leaders from the five-state region.
Dr. LaTurner's area of expertise is evaluation capacity building for state education agencies, including developing evaluation plans and employing appropriate quantitative and qualitative research methods to study the effectiveness of a range of district and school improvement programs. Dr. LaTurner holds a B.A. in sociology from Purdue University, an M.A. in higher education and student affairs from Bowling Green State, and a Ph.D. in sociology with a focus on education and statistics from the University of Texas at Austin.
