Melissa Dodson, a principal researcher at American Institutes for Research (AIR), serves as co-deputy director for the REL Southwest. In this role, Dr. Dodson provides overall leadership and quality assurance of the REL Southwest's analytic technical support and research projects. In addition, she assists the REL Southwest director in the management of relationships, communications, and work with the REL Southwest Governing Board, which comprises education leaders from the five-state region.

Dr. Dodson has more than 15 years of experience designing and implementing large- and small-scale evaluation studies primarily in STEM education, teacher education, and program replication. She has a B.A. in liberal arts with majors in psychology and English literature and a Ph.D. in educational psychology with a specialization in learning, cognition, and instruction from the University of Texas at Austin.
