Overview

States and districts are increasingly focused on the effective use of early childhood data to improve child outcomes, and many education agencies administer assessments to obtain such data. For these efforts to be effective, however, they must involve families as well as practitioners and policymakers—all of whom play a key role in young children's development and education.

Cohosted by REL Northeast & Islands and REL Southwest, this bridge event webinar examines the strategies the Research Program Partnership at the University of Kansas employs to promote the use of early childhood data at multiple levels, particularly with families. Representatives from the Partnership, which consists of Project EAGLE and Juniper Gardens Children’s Project, provide overviews of both programs and explain how they use child assessment data as tools for family engagement and program planning as well as to inform daily practice. The focus is on family engagement in the assessment process and the strategies used to share child data with families.

Outcomes:

  • Understand how child data can be used at various levels (classroom, program, and agency)
  • Understand the lessons learned and challenges associated with engaging families of young children in the assessment process
