Byng HS Among Top "Beating the Odds" Schools

In a list of 2014 "Beating the Odds" Schools, Newsweek recognized Byng High School, in southeastern rural Oklahoma, as one of the top 500 schools in the nation for low-income students. In compiling the list, Newsweek ranked schools that performed better than statistically expected, given students' level of poverty, in preparing students for college.

The superintendent of Byng Public Schools is a member of our Oklahoma Rural Schools Research Alliance. The school district also is serving as the rural pilot site for the alliance's Educators and Data Use project, which seeks to identify and foster best practices for data use to inform classroom instruction, with a focus on the practices most applicable to rural schools.
