Prekindergarten Research in New Mexico: Setting a Research Agenda and Validating an Observation Tool (11/28/2017)
Early childhood education is a top priority for many states. In an effort to address states’ interests in early childhood education, REL Southwest has two research alliances that study early childhood education questions: one in Arkansas and one in New Mexico. Working with researchers from the REL Southwest, each alliance identified key early childhood topics to study.
REL Southwest hosted two sessions at the National Principals Conference in Philadelphia on July 9–10, 2017. The sessions highlighted our work adapting early warning systems to identify at-risk English learner students and examining the alignment between early childhood evaluation instruments.
REL Southwest Cohosts Bridge Event on Unlocking Key Challenges Facing Arkansas' Schools (05/30/2017)
REL Southwest and the Office for Education Policy at the University of Arkansas cohosted a bridge event titled "Unlocking Key Challenges Facing Arkansas’ Schools" in Little Rock on September 14, 2016. Presenters focused on three topic strands: early childhood education, rural education, and diverse learners.

On December 10, 2015, REL Southwest held a highly successful and well-attended symposium bridging research, policy, and practice in early childhood education at Bains Lower Elementary school in Louisiana. Attendees learned about the high-quality early learning program at Bains, which is part of West Feliciana Parish School District, the state's top-ranked district in kindergarten readiness.
REL Southwest and Bains Lower Elementary Host Early Childhood Education Symposium in Louisiana (12/17/2015)
Educators from six states participated in an early childhood education symposium on bridging research, policy, and practice on December 10, 2015. The event was cohosted by REL Southwest's Louisiana Charter Schools Research Alliance and Bains Lower Elementary School in West Feliciana Parish School District, Louisiana's top-ranked district in kindergarten readiness. More than 15 Louisiana parishes were represented among the attendees, who heard several expert presentations on early childhood education trends and policy issues. In addition, attendees participated in panel discussions and breakout sessions on early childhood literacy and mathematics and toured the high-quality early learning program at Bains Lower Elementary.
